Superman is referred to as the Big Blue Boy Scout, the Man of Steel, the Man of Tomorrow, and notably the Last Son of Krypton. As I was driving across western Kansas, I came across this old mail box and thought "PERFECT!" For those that are not familiar with the tale of Superman, he was rocketed to earth moments before the destruction of his home planet Krypton and was found by a Kansas farmer and his wife and raised with strong morals and values in the heartland. Since I grew up reading comics and have been looking for an opportunity to take a shot like this one for some time, this was definitely fulfilling. The concept of a Fortress of Solitude is something I have often thought about and can see a certain amount of appeal to have one. For me, a life in the country can almost be like a Fortress of Solitude. Peaceful, quiet, & self-dependent, among others. The movie Superman Returns seemed to hit on this when Clark Kent/Superman came back to Earth and stayed on the old family farm before he picked up where he left off...
This photo is a photo-manipulation, which I will leave those parts to be pondered by the viewer.
The colors, the sunset, and the word Kent on the mailbox have been added. This particular shot was taken looking directly due north about mid afternoon.
The Kent mailbox is a fantastic find!
