The sun was setting and the clouds were moving fast, while I was scrambling to find a place to set up shop...I almost passed this intersection, but I threw on the brakes and the rest is history!

Are these HDR's?
This one is. Just a little bit of the foreground and the sign itself are the elements that are set at a different exposure than the sky. If only the camera could capture the light range as perfectly as our eyes in one single shot! I've been experimenting with HDR's the last several months and I think I really like the results. In the past, I would just try use a fill flash to capture the foreground object while the camera was set to capture the sky., but doing the HDR process has somewhat opened the possibilities. I also used to try and not shoot my subject matter with a heavy back light and keep my back always facing the sun. It seems HDR's have been a hot topic as of late with some people being strictly against them. Have you worked any with them in your photography?

I have tried, and used a few HDR's for commercial interior projects but have not been able to create any images with HDR that I felt belonged here in my gallery. its the post processing I have not worked out yet. HDR is just another technique those who are against it should also be against gradual neutral density filters, infrared filters, white balance adjustments ect ect.....
Some of my pictures that use the technique are more true-to-life of what it looked liked when I took the picture and some of the pictures I've used the technique on, I've tried to make it look more surreal or darker/enhanced looking. I usually don't do the same thing all the time on my pictures..it usually depends on the picture itself and what I decide I want to do with it or the look I want to achieve with it. Since my background is in graphic design, I approach a lot of my photography like I do my design work or art in general, instead of doing a single method of photography. I usually view each picture as its own piece of art and move and adjust things depending on the subject or the color tones of the picture, etc. Hopefully I made sense...
